Tong Tem Toh
Chiang Mai is renowned for its street food, but if you’re after something a cut above then Tong Tem Toh is a winner. Quintessentially northern, this restaurant makes as few concessions to Western tourists as you’d expect from a place so popular with locals.
The Service 1921 Restaurant & Bar
The building housing this restaurant was built in 1915, and in 1921 it became the British Consulate of Chiang Mai. As such, this stylish restaurant reimagines itself as the one-time local headquarters of British secret intelligence.
Rachamankha
Rachamankha is an oasis, one of those you’d-never-know-it-was-there places down an unassuming street in Chiang Mai’s old city. Even the architecture typifies the cultural melting pot of the area; Chinese and Thai design perfectly in sync, producing something that speaks of scale, comfort and history.
U Chiang Mai
At the heart of the old city is U Chiang Mai, a vivacious boutique hotel that perfectly blends modern convenience, a bustling location and beautiful northern decor. Its position facing the busy Sunday Markets makes it hard to imagine being any closer to the action, but it somehow manages to occupy a space all its own.
Tamarind Village
A tamarind tree over 200 years old marks the centre of this remarkable, refined hotel at the end of a bamboo archway. Built in 2002, Tamarind Village occupies a white Lanna-style building featuring tiled pavilions, covered walkways, lime plaster walls and dark mahogany. It may be relatively new, but it feels steeped in ancient culture.
Mae Taeng jungle trek
There’s a sense in which you have to go north to get to the real Thailand. Up here the air is fresher and the mountains closer - so for the daring, the first port of call is definitely the varied trekking programme of Travel Hub Chiang Mai.
Fah Lanna Spa
You’d be remiss if you were in the former Lanna kingdom without treating yourself to a traditional Thai massage, and at Fah Lanna there’s a good chance you’ll have the best one of your life. Have you earned it from a day’s jungle trekking? It doesn’t matter. Go for it.
